Meet
Midwife Kate

Hello, my name is Kate and I live and work as a Midwife on the Northern Beaches. I have been a Midwife for 20 years, qualifying and working in the UK for ten years before migrating to Australia with my family. My main experience is working as a Midwife within a birthing unit environment, where my main interests have been waterbirth and active birth. In the UK, I also worked as part of a homebirth team; homebirth is publicly available to all women in the UK who wish this, and so it usually forms part of all Midwives training and experience.

From the moment I first learnt about the concept of homebirth as a Student Midwife, I knew that was where my true passion lay. I wanted it for my own births and for my midwifery practice. When I met my husband, my test question for him as to hether I could date him was,

“How do you feel about homebirth?, because when I have my babies, that is where they are being born!”.

Luckily for me, he thought it was a great idea and I am now a proud mother to two homeborn children. Those births were the most amazing, empowering, and addictive experiences of my life!, and it remains my passion to help women and their families achieve a homebirth experience in a safe, nurturing, and meaningful way. I see birth as a natural and normal life event , but one which has huge significance in your life and experience as a mother ever after. I understand the role of the birthplace and the Midwife, in facilitating a physiological birth, and I believe in the power of women to birth instinctively with no intervention. I am excited to be working with Gail at The Nesting Hub and with home birthing families again, offering continuity of care with all visits provided in the home, giving women true choices in their pregnancy and birth, and empowering them to confidently take responsibility for their bodies and their babies.

Love, Midwife Kate xo
